Thai massage is an ancient healing system that is believed to have been developed by a contemporary and friend of the Buddha, Jivaka Kumarbhaccha. The system is based on ayurvedic medicine, Buddhist spiritual practice and yoga. History also links its practice with local indigenous healing practices in ancient Siam.
It combines meditation, rhythmic acupressure and deep assisted stretches to open , exercise and tone all the system of the body. To the observer, it would appear that Thai Massage is a combination of gentle rocking, acupressure, reflexology, energy work and stretching. Indeed, it looks like a form of passive yoga. The internal organs are toned, muscles are stretched and joints are loosened and opened. Eventually, a deep state of relaxation and increased vitality is achieved. Both the client and the practitioner find themselves in a deep realm of meditative consciousness during this practice. It has no parallel in its ability to increase flexibility, range of motion and a deep sense of overall well being.
